In addition to exploring our own backyard, we (Grammy and I) took the girls to explore one of our favorite spots at the refuge.
We found a snake! Two, actually! Big ones! They girls were pretty excited. We literally had to hold Makenna back to keep her from getting too close. Once at a safe distance, she got out her take-along-guide and was able to find it in the book all on her own!

I made animal sighting journals for the girls to bring with us. As the girls spotted animals, they found them in their book and put a sticker next the picture. I've been meaning to do this for the girls for about 2 years now. I'm so glad I finally got around to doing it. They LOVED it!!
