About a week ago we finished our letter K stuff. Most of our activities were pretty low key (and maybe a little lame). My big plan for the letter K was to take Kylee to feed/pet the kangaroos at the Little River Zoo. Unfortunately, the zoo closed in March due to lack of funding. Anyways......
We spent a day talking about Kylee. I made a "Where's Kylee" book with positional words (in, on, under, etc). As I read the book, she glued the corresponding picture of herself to the page. She loved the gluing part, but only read the book once before removing all the pictures and giving them back to me. I was a little bummed at her disinterest. My students were always so excited about the ones I made them. Oh well. We also looked at old photo albums of Kylee and sung Kylee songs.
One day we talked about Korea. We ate Korean food, listened to Korean pop songs in the car, and sung the Korean 3 Bears song. This is a video of Kylee attempting to sing the 3 Bears song. The video is actually from today (my recorder went MIA for about a week).
On our first K day we talked about karate and kicking. We read Kylee Kangaroo's Karate Kickers and did alphabet karate. Later we went outside so that Kylee could see how high she could kick, how fast she could kick, and how far she could kick a ball.
One day was devoted to kisses. I read Froggy's First Kiss to Kylee. Then Kylee "read" Baby Animal Kisses to Makenna. We listened to "Kiss the Girl" from The Little Mermaid and then covered a K (and each other) in kisses. Kylee really liked that, because she got to put on lipstick. We also ate a few Hershey kisses.
Another day was all about kites. We read Curious George The Kite and danced around to "Lets Go Fly A Kite" from Mary Poppins. That evening grandma helped Kylee fly her kite. Kylee and Makenna also flew mini kites on their own. I was too close to get a pic of them with their mini kites, but Makenna loved it!
We read Turn the Key and See. Its a pretty cute, interactive book. Then Kylee did rubbings of a key. She thought it was neat at first, but quickly lost interest.
On our last K day, we read The Lion Who Liked Ketchup . Kylee made ketchup out of tomato paste. She had a lot fun making it, and then she and Makenna had even more fun eating it.
How had I missed this post before?? LOVE the videos! Super smart girl to be speaking Korean (and super lucky girl to be eating it!) Love these activities (especially the kisses)
